Mi-Eun Kim is born in South Korea in 1977. Since early childhood she was into drawing, painting, and forming clay. From age 15 she studied in the UK. She did her Art and Design Foundation Course BTEC diploma at Leeds College of Art and Design in 1997. She completed her degree BA (Hons) Decorative Arts in 2000 at Nottingham Trent University. For a short period she worked at Dick Bruna Korea as design controller until she moved to the Netherlands. After settling down she decided to pursue her dream to become an independent artist. Now she focuses on painting, etching and drawing. She is exploring and adapting techniques to develop her own unique styles.
“My cultural background from the far-east influences the style of my artworks by subconsciously creating a unique mixture of character. My inspirations are mostly coming from the nature and from my experiences such as where I have travelled, what I have seen, and how I felt. My paintings often reflect mood or emotion that enhances the impression. I love thick brush marks and textures on my canvas. I like to experiment with various techniques such as scratching, splashing, blowing, and printing. I am intensively involved in etching. I am fascinated by the method and how it brings out fundamentally different atmosphere than paintings.”
